New Solidarity Campaign for the Cause of The Five

The International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five called, from Washington, to a new solidarity campaign in favor of their release from prison.
Like every month, on the 5th, the solidarity group called to increase the number of messages sent to the White House, whether by telephone, fax or e-mails, asking President Barack Obama to make use of his executive power and put an end to the injustice committed against the Cuban heroes condemned in the U.S. for warning about the plans of violent organizations based in that country, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The previous week, renowned U.S. historian Jane Franklin requested, in a letter addressed to Obama, the release of the Cuban patriots still in prison: Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez. The other hero, Rene Gonzalez, is back in Cuba, after serving his sentence plus a period of supervised release in U.S. territory.
The call to put an end to that injustice was made in May, 2005, by a panel of the United Nations, which concluded at the time that the detention of The Five was illegal and arbitrary, and urged Washington to immediately remedy that situation, something not done by the White House until today.
